THE INNOVATIVE TRAINING MODULE

INNOVATIVE TRAINING MODULE FOR GRASS ROOT WORKERS ON PREVENTION, EARLY DETECTION OF DISABILITIES AND INCLUSION OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. The module contains the following items:

  1. Book 1- Mother and Child Care: Promoting Health, Preventing Disabilities highlights infant and mother care practices which promote health and reduce disabilities.
  2. Book 2- Early Detection of Childhood Disabilities and Persons with Disability in the Community explains the concept of early detection of disabilities and moves on to give information on causes, early signs and prevention of all major disabilities.
  3. Book 3- Stimulating Development in Young Children with Disabilities at Anganwadi and at Home: A Practical Guide. Gives the concept of Inclusive Education and Inclusive ECE. One chapter each is devoted to general principles for managing children with various disabilities in anganwadi/class/home and adaptations required for this.
  4. Disability Screening Schedule (DSS)- a short proforma to screen children with disabilities from the large population. The DSS has a high Sensitivity(0.89) and high Specificity (0.98).
  5. 8 Posters - 4 on Early Detection, 4 on Early Stimulation of CWD and Inclusion at ECE centres
  6. Training aids- Focus Group Discussion situations, Role Play, Simulation Situations

This website presents the work undertaken by Dr Geeta Chopra, Associate Professor, Department of Human Development and Childhood Studies, Institute of Home Economics, Delhi University on developing, field testing and validating a Training Module for Community Workers on Early Detection of Disabilities and Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Early Childhood Education programmes. The work has spanned over 15 years and now is available to all for wider use.
